A) My father was the
president of the United States from 1961 to 1963. He was the
youngest man ever to be elected president. His term was cut short
when he was tragically shot to death in November 1963. He was
only 46 years old. I was a child of six when he died.
B) Although my family lived
very much in the spotlight, I have lived a quiet life as a wife,
mother, lawyer, and author and have stayed out of politics.
C) Last week, I stepped into
the presidential campaign to tell people that I was supporting
Barack Obama for president. In an article for the New York Times,
I wrote that "I never had a president who inspired me the
way people tell me that my father inspired them." I went
on to say that I now believe I have found that person in Barack
Obama. My uncle, a well-known senator, also gave his endorsement
to Senator Obama last week.
