Science

The hole in the ozone layer over the Antarctic is growing, but scientists think the process can be stopped and that the ozone layer can recover. How much has the hole in the ozone layer grown over the last ten years? Is the ozone being destroyed at a faster or slower rate than five or ten years ago? What must humans do to stop the destruction of the layer? At NASA's Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer web page (TOMS), you can check out where the ozone hole is today and how it has grown over the years. NASA has a resource page for students who want to learn more about the ozone layer. You can find more information at from Environment Canada ozone layer page.

Environment

Many different species of whales exist in the world. Find out what these species are and choose one kind of whale to learn more about. Is this whale species endangered? Is it one that the Japanese whalers are hunting? Look at the Japanese Whaling Association site. You can also check out the International Whaling Commission's page. The Center for Whale Research offers a page of links to whale sites.

Health

Most of us eat junk food sometimes. It tastes good, but unfortunately, it's mostly fat and sugar, with no vitamins. Staying healthy and looking good can be as simple as replacing potato chips with oranges and candy with apples. Do you think this is too hard to do? Put together a meal-and-snack plan for one day that includes only healthy foods. Make up menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can find help with your food plan at the American Heart Association site, Yahoo!News's full coverage of weight issues in the news, and Dole Food Company's "5-A-Day" site.
