NewsCurrents One on One Help

NewsCurrents One on One is an interactive current events program designed for individual student use. A new issue of NewsCurrents One on One is posted each week during the school year, and biweekly during the summer. Back issues of NewsCurrents One on One remain archived and are searchable on the site.

Each week, NewsCurrents One on One covers five to seven news stories. The text and images are presented together onscreen. Click through the stories and read them and absorb the information at your own pace.

A story index on the home page of the NewsCurrents One on One website allow the student to choose stories of interest to them.

Each news story is presented in a linear fashion. Take quiz at the end of each story to test yourself.

Every NewsCurrents One on One story includes embedded links to websites where you can go to learn more in-depth information on the issue or topic presented.

In addition to the weekly lineup of stories, NewsCurrents One on One includes many extra student activities and features. These include:

Editorial cartoon of the week - Each week's issue features an editorial cartoon on a current news topic. This cartoon is explained and students are encouraged to use their critical thinking skills to analyze the cartoon.
"This Week in History," a feature that provides background information on an important historical event from that week.
"Who Am I?" This feature begins every NewsCurrents One on One issue. Students are provided with clues to guess the identity of the news person that is presented. This is a fun and interactive way to begin that week's NewsCurrents One on One presentation.
Interactive weekly NewsQuiz. A fun way to test knowledge of the week's news.
A monitored comment area for each NewsCurrents One on One story. This allows students from around the country to share their thoughts and opinions in a safe and controlled environment.
Weekly online opinion polls.
A site-wide search feature that allows students to research any topic that NewsCurrents One on One has covered and find all the stories on the topic, to read more in depth about any issue.
