The entire military operation in Afghanistan is under NATO's control. But more and more, the United States is really in control of military actions in Afghanistan. As you can see, NATO has more than 50,000 troops there. These troops are from NATO countries and some non-NATO countries, but about half of them are U.S. troops. And the United States has its own separate force in Afghanistan, made up of nearly 30,000 troops. President Obama says he will send about 17,000 more U.S. troops to Afghanistan this year. He is asking NATO countries to send more troops as well. But many experts say this is unlikely to happen. Some NATO countries would like to bring their troops out of Afghanistan. And President Obama says that the United States may have to take over most of the mission in Afghanistan. Do you think NATO should contribute more troops to the mission?
