Many Republicans expressed opposition to the president's plan.

Many Republicans have objections to parts of the president's bill. Rep. John Boehner is the leader of the Republicans in the House of Representatives. In general, Republicans think the bill has too much spending. They also say that too much of the spending in the bill would not help the economy, or at least would not help the economy quickly enough. Republicans are worried about how the bill would increase the budget deficit. The budget deficit is the difference between how much the government spends and how much it gets in taxes. The president's bill would cause the government to spend a lot more than it takes in. And Republicans also say that the bill should include more tax cuts. Republicans in Congress believe that tax cuts are the quickest way to help the economy. Do you think this is true?

President Obama says that even if this bill is passed, the economy might get worse before it gets better. He says his plan will keep more jobs from being lost, and will help the economy improve faster. The president says that he knows his bill would increase the budget deficit a lot. He believes that the economy will get much worse if the government doesn't step in and help. Do you think this is true? Some Democrats and Republicans say they are willing to compromise to come up with a bill that both sides can agree on. President Obama wants a bill on his desk to sign by the middle of February. Do you think this is possible? What do you think is the best way to fix the economy?
