The attacks claimed more than 180 lives.

All across the city of Mumbai, India, mourners lit candles in memory of the victims of a terrible tragedy that took place in that city recently. More than 180 people were killed and more than 300 people were injured in terrorist attacks that took place over three days in late November. Terrorism is violence or the threat of violence for political gains. The Mumbai attacks were carried out by 10 men carrying guns and other weapons. The gunmen arrived in Mumbai by boat, then split up and attacked several crowded locations in the city, including a train station, restaurants, and hotels. They also attacked a hospital and a building that contained a Jewish center and a synagogue, which is a Jewish place of worship. Their final attack took place at the Taj Mahal hotel, where they killed many people and took about 200 people hostage. There, all but one of the gunmen were killed by Indian police in a shootout. The captured gunman is a 21-year-old Pakistani man named Azam Amir Kasab. Where is Pakistan in relation to India? How do you think this attack has affected relations between India and Pakistan?

The captured attacker says he is a member of a Pakistani terrorist group. This group is connected to a region that has caused a lot of conflict between India and Pakistan in the past. This region is called Kashmir
