wants you to choose the next president.
Every four years, citizens
of the United States get to decide who their president will be.
Some people believe that choosing a president is the most important
decision Americans make as citizens. Do you agree or disagree?
Why? One of the men you see here will be the next president
of the United States, because they are the two main candidates.
This week and every week until the Nov. 4th election, they will
be traveling to many different states, talking to thousands of
people, and meeting as many voters as they can.
The strength and popularity of these candidates are often measured
in polls, which are surveys of public opinion. Have you paid
attention to the presidential polls? Who do you think is leading
in the polls now? Why do you think different polls get different
results? Whatever the polls show, opinions can change quickly
depending on what happens in the weeks ahead. How much do
you know about the presidential candidates? What do you think
are the strengths and weaknesses of each candidate?
In 2004, about 60 percent of Americans who could vote actually
voted. That was the highest turnout since 1968. Still, that means
40 percent of eligible voters didn't vote. Why do you think
so many people don't vote? We want to know who you think
should be the next president. Results of this poll will be announced
in October.
